Wahroonga Rugby Club
Since 1962, Wahroonga Rugby Club has encouraged boys and girls to learn and play Rugby Union from Under 6 to U18.
Minis teams (U6-U9) play ‘tag’ rugby in U6 and U7, progressing to tackle rugby in U8 as they develop skills. There is no competition ladder in Minis rugby and teams are not graded – it’s all about developing skills and enjoyment. Training is on Friday afternoons for all Minis teams and games are played on Saturday mornings.
Juniors teams (U10-U18) are graded and compete against similarly graded teams in the Sydney Juniors Rugby Union (SJRU) competition. U10-U12 play games on Friday nights or Sundays and U13-U18 play on a Sunday – good to know when a large number of kids in our area already play sport on a Saturday for school.
Wahroonga Rugby Club is a not-for-profit junior rugby club administered by parent volunteers. We have an average playing group of around 400 kids and have the use of two rugby fields, located at the end of Cliff Avenue, North Wahroonga. Our clubhouse, renovated in 2009, provides a wonderful facility for club meetings and events and is a terrific place to socialise with fellow Tigers. On Friday nights during the season, the Tiger Tavern serves bottled beer and wine and the canteen is open for food, snacks and soft drinks – many of our parents catch up on a Friday night at the Tavern while cheering on the Tigers from our clubhouse balcony.
When you join the Tigers you become part of a much broader community. We encourage our Tigers to ‘give back’ to the club by refereeing, volunteering around the club or as a mentor to younger Tigers. Many past parents and players are still actively involved in our Tigers Community.
Wahroonga-Sanda Japanese Rugby Tour
Since 1997, Wahroonga Rugby Club has enjoyed a reciprocal touring arrangement with Japanese Rugby Club, Sanda.
Every second year, players from the U11 & U12 age groups have an opportunity to travel to Sanda (in the Hyogo prefecture of Japan) and are billeted with families of players from Sanda Rugby Club. The tour lasts about 8-10 days and apart from playing a lot of rugby, our Tigers get to experience life in Japan while living with a Japanese family and a lot of other cool stuff like riding a bullet train, having fun at Universal Studios and visiting culturally significant sites such as Hiroshima.
Wahroonga Toothless Tigers
Golden Oldies Rugby is especially for players aged 35 and over. It provides enjoyment for players of all abilities and focuses on participation rather than winning. Our game is not too hard-hitting and definitely more social!
Join us for touch on Sundays from 3pm (4pm in Summer) at Cliff Oval or contact Toothless Tigers Coordinator Susan Stenning on 0425 359 231.
