Gordon District Barbarians

The Barbarian Football Club is a rugby union rugby team usually referred to as ‘the Barbarians’ (nicknamed the ‘Baa-Baas’) and is an invitational team based in Britain. The Barbarians play in traditional black and white hoops, though players retain the socks from their ‘home’ club strip.

Worldwide, many invitational clubs are based on the Barbarian Football Club concept and now our very own  Gordon District Barbarians draw on this long held tradition.

The Gordon District Barbarians are open to Under 17 boys drawn from our eight village clubs, arranged into two district teams referred to as the Northern Baa-Baas and the Southern Baa-Baas.

Membership is by invitation and the only qualification considered when issuing an invitation is firstly that each boy is registered with one of our eight great village clubs; secondly that he should behave himself both on and off the field.

Being asked to become a GJRU Barbarian is an honour!

Unlike the Barbarian Football Club in Britain, our young men get to wear the highly prized jersey of GJRU incorporating the colours of the famous Gordon tartan – just like the Barbarians they get to still wear their village club socks.
